Job DetailsLevel: EntryJob Location: Corpus Christi, TX 78413Position Type: Part TimeSalary Range: $14.00 - $14.00 HourlyJob Category: FacilitiesSt. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in Corpus Christi, Texas, is seeking a part-time Custodian to help maintain the church and other buildings on parish property. The position will serve one to two days per week (typically 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) or as needed.
Ministerial Character:
The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
Responsibilities:
As an integral part of ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
Continuously grow in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
Keeps buildings in clean and orderly condition
Performs routine general maintenance activities
Performs heavy cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, scrubbing surfaces, emptying trash, dusting
Sanitizes restrooms and common touch points (such as doorknobs)
Mixes cleaning solutions and works with chemicals carefully following instructions for use
Notifies Administrative Assistant regarding the need for maintenance repairs or supply needs
Performs other duties as assigned
Mental/Physical Demands:
Strong organizational skills
Ability to manage duties effectively and tactfully
Ability to carry, pull, push, lift, or move objects 10 pounds or more
Ability to bend, stoop, climb (step ladder), kneel, reach
Ability to work with cleaning chemicals and general maintenance equipment
Ability to maintain composure under duress; maintain emotional control under stress
Maintain confidentiality
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid Texas driver's license
Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures
Experience with using cleaning equipment including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions
Additional Requirements:
Must successfully complete pre-employment screening this includes a criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review (MVR), and drug screening
Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required
Must adhere to all Diocesan policies and procedures
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to stand, walk, and bend/stoop for extended periods of time
Ability to perform repetitive hand motions for long periods of time
Background in mixing and using cleaning chemicals
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules
