A general summary of responsibilities includes providing a safe, clean environment, supporting and assisting clients at the shelter, and documenting any safety/security concerns or rule violations.
Ministerial Character:
The Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (The Diocese) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
General Responsibilities:
As an integral part of the ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic church
Continuously grows in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
Empower guests and provide support and crisis intervention through trauma-informed care
Ability to provide resource information or triage questions, for clients we serve and to those who call shelter to apply/ask for information
Communicate necessary guest information to shelter staff to keep them informed
Follow and enforce Shelter Guidelines, Policies, and Procedures with Shelter Clients
Support and assist guests with their shelter needs as they arise (questions, concerns, hygiene supplies, laundry and cleaning supplies, and more)
Maintain safety and security of shelter property, and report concerns to Shelter Supervisor or to the authorities
Ensure the privacy and safety of other guests by not confirming identity of other clients, and by not allowing anyone other than clients, staff, case workers, volunteers or law enforcement on the premises
Maintain the cleanliness of shelter through performing housekeeping tasks outlined in Staff Task List (ex. laundry, sweeping, mopping, disinfecting)
Complete Shelter Inventory and organizational/shelter upkeep duties as assigned
Perform basic maintenance as needed (ex. changing light bulbs, plunging toilets) and report any major maintenance issues to Shelter Supervisor.
Attend regularly scheduled All Staff meetings and trainings
Maintain positive, supportive and respectful client relations
Other duties as assigned
Mental/Physical Demands:
Ability to carry, pull, push, lift, or move objects 10 pounds or more
Ability to maintain composure under duress; maintain emotional control under stress
Must maintain confidentiality of the department
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid Texas Driver License
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience with Social Services, Human Services or vulnerable population preferred
Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries while working with clients
Ability to maintain confidentiality of clients
Ability to be compassionate and firm towards clients
Ability to accurately record information for required client and staff documentation while maintaining confidentiality and strong boundaries
Additional Requirements:
Must successfully complete criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review, and drug screening
Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required
Must adhere to all diocesan policies and procedures
