Job Summary : University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy is seeking an outstanding, highly qualified substitute Spanish teacher to cover for maternity leave at the end of the 2025-26 school year and/or beginning of the 2026-27 school year. Responsibilities include the intellectual formation of students by teaching reading, writing, listening, speaking, and culture in the Spanish language, designing engaging student-centered lesson plans, and creating innovative assessments. The ideal candidate must be a relationship builder, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be well trained in content knowledge and teaching strategies, and model what it looks like to be a reflective and lifelong learner.

Compensation : $175 daily rate of pay when school is in session.
Reports to: the Principal, with additional oversight provided by the Assistant Principals and the Department Chairperson

Duties and Performance Responsibilities : A day consists of five (5) teaching periods, one (1) lunch period, one (1) homeroom period, one (1) period given to prefecting or other School duty as the Principal or his assistant may assign, and at least one (1) period unencumbered by instructional or supervisory responsibilities to provide time for planning, student conferences, preparation for effective teaching and attention to major program improvement and innovation.
The Teacher’s services shall include the preparation and correction of examinations, proctoring, and substitution. Included are the customary conferences with students and parents; individual guidance of students; service on faculty committees; active service in studying departmental and School problems; preparation of syllabi; attendance at commencement, faculty meetings and other School functions; and such other professional services as in the judgment of the Principal, the needs of the School shall require. Qualifications and Experience :
- A Bachelor’s degree in the subject area and Michigan teaching certification with an endorsement in World Language (FA-FS) are required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Classroom teaching experience preferred.U of D Jesuit partners with Clarkston Community Schools for Shared Services. The successful candidate must be willing to participate in Shared Services as a condition of employment.

- Collaborative nature in teaching, curriculum development, and community engagement to foster positive working relationships with students and faculty.
- Ability to implement policy and procedure as well as a commitment to professional development through incorporating Jesuit pedagogical practices.Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Physical Working Conditions :
Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (10 to 20 pounds). Long periods of standing or sitting and working on a computer.
Working Environment :
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal classroom setting.
