The campus minister is essential to the daily operation and pastoral care of the St. John Newman Center. The campus minister collaborates and assists the rector-chaplain in his responsibility for the pastoral and spiritual care of the students, administration of the goods of the chapel and center, and maintaining the furnishings and buildings. This is accomplished by caring for the facilities, coordinating bible studies and/or catechetical sessions as well as coordinating social gatherings, managing and supervising the student interns. The campus minister leads a life worthy of imitation as a practicing Catholic.
MINISTERIAL CHARACTER:
The Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (The Diocese) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both your professional and personal life
Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
Oversee day-to-day operations of the St. John Newman Center facilities including casting a vision for future projects for the Newman Center and Chapel and maintaining calendar of activities for campus ministry
Manage and supervise student interns
Coordinate the application, interviewing, and training of applicants and student interns
Generate new ideas for, coordinate, and lead gatherings, including but not limited to: Thursday lunches, orientation and welcome week, and graduation luncheons
Promoting St. John Newman Center by establishing key relationships and resources in the community, on campus, and in the local parishes
Coordinate the recruitment of volunteers
Engage donors and alumni via newsletter and organize donor files
Support student formation that encourages and trains them to be effective leaders in church and society, rooted in Gospel values and in service
Assist with faith and spiritual formation events, including, but not limited to: OCIA, Bible Study and Catechetical Sessions throughout the year, retreats, service projects, Theology on Tap, social gatherings
Facilitate (including preparation and clean up) regularly scheduled student weekly events
Maintain the website and social media for promotion of St. John Newman Center events and programs
Create schedule of liturgical ministers and assist with Liturgies at parish level
Collaborate with the Catholic Student Organization (CSO)
Perform other duties assigned

QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Ministry, Religious Studies, or a related field preferred
Minimum two years of ministry experience with a college or university campus ministry or young adult ministry
Know the basic teachings of the Catholic Church and live by them with an openness to learn more about the Faith
Food handler's license preferred
Valid Texas driver's license required
A love for God, His Church, His people, and an enjoyment and willingness to serve them from an administrative standpoint, particularly college-aged students
Practicing Roman Catholic with a general knowledge of Catholic liturgy
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Must be able to work independently and have good organizational skills
Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
Ability to cook and a willingness to learn how to cook simple meals
Professional attitude and behavior with an ability to set appropriate boundaries with students and teammates under the guidelines listed in the Creating and Maintaining a Safe Environment document regarding ethics and integrity in ministry in the Diocese of Corpus Christi

Ability to lead and educate college students on Catholic teachings
Additional Requirements:
Submit to employment required screening including a criminal background check, motor vehicle record check, and drug screening
Complete certification in Safe Environment Training by the Office of Safe Environment and Child and Family Resources
