Job Summary
The Special Education Teacher Assistant at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic School supports the classroom teacher in providing a structured, faith-filled learning environment for students with diverse learning needs. This role assists in implementing instructional activities, accommodations, and behavioral supports to help students grow academically, socially, and spiritually in alignment with Catholic values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the teacher in delivering instruction and modifying activities to meet individual student needs
- Provide one-on-one and small group assistance to reinforce skills and concepts
- Assist with the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and classroom accommodations
- Help maintain a positive, structured classroom environment and support behavior management strategies
- Monitor student progress and communicate observations to the teacher
- Assist with classroom preparation, organization, and instructional materials
- Support students with transitions, routines, and daily activities
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and specialists to support student success
- Model and uphold Catholic values in all interactions with students and staff
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; associate degree or coursework in education preferred
- Experience working with children, especially those with special needs, is preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated patience, flexibility, and a caring demeanor
- Commitment to the mission of Catholic education
