Position Summary
The Coordinator of Marriage Preparation oversees the administrative, logistical, and programmatic aspects of marriage preparation. This full-time role serves as the primary point of contact for engaged couples, ensuring a smooth, organized, and faithful preparation process leading up to the wedding day. The Coordinator works closely with clergy, parish staff, and volunteers to foster strong, Christ-centered marriages through effective preparation and pastoral support.
Key Responsibilities
Marriage Preparation (Administrative & Pastoral Coordination)
Serve as the initial point of contact for engaged couples inquiring about marriage in the parish
Provide clear guidance on parish and diocesan requirements, timelines, and necessary documentation
Develop and track each couple’s preparation plan from initial inquiry through the wedding day
Coordinate wedding dates, including scheduling and managing date holds
Ensure completion of all canonical and parish paperwork in collaboration with clergy (e.g., prenuptial forms, letters of suitability)
Maintain accurate and organized records of engaged couples throughout the preparation process
Schedule meetings between couples and clergy as needed
Collaborate with parish staff and wedding coordinators to ensure a seamless process
Marriage Preparation (Program Support & Catechesis)
Coordinate logistics for marriage preparation programs (e.g., Pre-Cana, FOCCUS, Theology of the Body sessions)
Assist in facilitating sessions or providing catechetical content as needed
Recruit, schedule, and support mentor/sponsor couples in collaboration with parish leadership
Communicate expectations and ensure couples complete all required components of preparation
Collaborate with clergy and staff to identify and communicate any pastoral concerns or readiness issues
Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with clergy and parish staff to support integrated pastoral care
Maintain regular communication regarding schedules, program needs, and couple progress
Stay informed on Church teaching and best practices in marriage ministry
Qualifications
Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
Solid understanding of Catholic teaching on marriage and family life
Experience in ministry, catechesis, administration, or pastoral support preferred
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work with engaged couples in a variety of situations
Ability to coordinate volunteers and manage multiple timelines effectively
Familiarity with Church teaching documents on marriage and family life is beneficial
Background check and diocesan safe environment training required
Work Environment
Full-time position 40 hours with benefits and regular evening & weekend availability required
Involves both administrative coordination and active program support
May include occasional travel for retreats or diocesan collaboration
