POSITION SUMMARY:
The Youth and Young Adult Ministry Director responds to the spiritual, catechetical, liturgical, and social needs of the Catholic youth in the parish. This involves coordinating comprehensive youth ministry programs designed for teens in middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL MINISTRIES:
- Serve as an advocate for the teens within the life of the parish
- Recruit, Train and certify CORE Team Volunteers, in accordance with all Diocesan Safe Environment policies.
- Provide opportunities for teen and adult CORE leaders to grow in leadership skills and faith formation.
- Plan, Prepare, and Implement gatherings for each ministry that provide opportunities for Catechesis and Evangelization (EDGE/LIFETEEN), including setup and cleanup before/after weekly gatherings.
- Plan, Prepare, and implement the weekly 5pm Youth/Life Teen Mass in collaboration with the Liturgy Director, Life Teen Band, and Pastor
- Foster Youth’s full active, conscious participation in the Mass through attendance and leadership
- Pastorally Minister to the teens, their families, and CORE Team experiencing times of hardship and crisis via prepared Pastoral Care Plan.
- Primarily Function as a relational minister to foster Christ-centered relationships
- Visit and spend time with youth and families outside of Church to evangelize.
- Plan, Prepare and Implement Retreats (including recruiting, planning meetings, logistical preparation, booking, transportation, and programming).
- Collaborate within the Diocese of San Jose for Youth Ministry events and Retreats
- Participate in Diocesan gatherings and meetings for youth ministers
- Plan and coordinate XLT (exalt) Praise & Worship Nights with the youth band as able throughout the year
- Recruit and send youth to volunteer at organizational and parish events
ADMINISTRATION:
- Prepare and manage income/expenses for the yearly Youth Ministry budget
- Scheduling all events that are to be held by Youth Ministry programs.
- Purchase and care for all materials, catechetical texts, and supplies used in Youth Ministry and Confirmation. Manage all personal receipts for reimbursement.
- Provide fundraising activities to help pay for or subsidize Youth Ministry expenses, especially through the annual Crab Feed Youth Fundraising Dinner.
- Attend Parish Staff and Catechetical department meetings for support and information regarding the mission of the parish
- Participate in Diocesan Youth Coordinator’s meetings, scheduled collaboration of multi-parish events, & promotion of other parishes events
- Serve as the principal staff support in the creation, development and execution of the area of Youth Ministry in support of the parish’s work on the Diocesan Pastoral Plan.
- Communicate with youth, parents, parish community, catechetical department staff, in regards to all aspects of Youth Ministry and Confirmation as appropriate
- Perform other related tasks to this position as requested by the Pastor and Youth Chaplain
- Ongoing education with the latest documents of the Church in regard to Youth Ministry, Liturgy, and Catholic Teachings.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- VBC: Plan, Recruit a team, Recruit Volunteers, and implement the annual summer Vacation Bible Camp Week.
- TECH: Responsible for the streaming of the Saturday Vigil Live Stream
THIS POSITION COLLABORATES WITH:
- Collaborates with Clergy, Director of Liturgy, Faith Formation Staff, Front office Staff, and Diocesan Personnel.
Education and/or Experience:
- Undergraduate Degree
- Experience in Catholic youth ministry, either as a volunteer or paid professional.
- Must be a practicing Catholic committed to living a life consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; collaborative leadership qualities.
- Must have the ability to identify, invite, train and develop leaders and volunteers
Computational Skills:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Keynote, Social Media Platforms
- Knowledge of current technological platforms by which to connect with teens and parents, such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Mailchimp.
Other Requirements:
- Significant knowledge of the Catholic faith.
- Willingness to serve as a role model for teens.
- Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the youth
Pay Range: $25-$35/hour
This position is a 30-hour position. Ability to work nights/weekends is required. Upon acceptance of this position, the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry will work on a contract basis, terminating at the end of the current fiscal year, and renewable upon satisfactory performance as determined by the pastor.
