Position Title: SPED COORDINATOR/ TEACHER

Purpose and Scope
Under the supervision of the principal, the SPED Coordinator/ Teacher is a person of
faith who strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education; assumes responsibility for
the leadership and management of the grades or classes assigned; develops and
implements an instructional program according to the needs of the students and the
established Diocesan Curriculum Standards; maintains detailed and accurate records
as required by the school; establishes positive school-community relationships;
continues professional development to remain current with religious and academic
certifications; performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned
by the principal. This position collaborates with fellow employees in promoting the
parish’s mission, “Our Lady of Mt. Carmel exists to get everyone who walks through our
doors to heaven.”
Essential Job Functions
- Works with specialists and teacher aides on schedule building
- Coordinates and administers new student testing
- Execute and oversee all school testing
- Create, organize and keep all spreadsheets and shared documents for the student
support team (i.e. score spreadsheets, permission slips, missing specials,
permission list)
- Works with math and reading specialists to create and train instructional aides on
drills
- Trains instructional aides on best practices to assist in the classroom
- Creates working relationship with local school district & attends MET meetings
- Keeps digital logs of parent communication/teacher communication shared with
Principal
- Meets weekly 1:1 with Principal
- Facilitates a weekly meeting as a SPED team
- Ongoing communication with parents, staff and principal regarding student progress

- Supports classroom teachers in making accommodations for the students
- Meets with teachers to create and review SSPs
- Communicates with parents about SSPs
- Creates a schedule for Reading, Math and Speech to communicate progress with
parents
- Participates in Diocesan training and meetings to support students with special
needs
- Assists in completing grants for materials
- Working with students with disabilities in a small group or 1:1 setting
- Meet with each intervention team after testing to discuss caseload (which students
are being added or dropped)
- Participates in parent meetings related to student support
- Coordinates Title funding
