Job Title: School Custodian

Position Summary
The School Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly school environment for
students, staff, and visitors. This role supports daily school operations by ensuring facilities are wellmaintained, sanitary, and ready for instructional and extracurricular activities.
Key Responsibilities
• Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, cafeterias, and common areas
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and wax floors as needed
• Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste properly
• Set up and break down rooms for lunch, events, meetings, and activities
• Perform routine inspections and report maintenance or safety issues
• Refill supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper
• Operate and maintain custodial equipment and cleaning tools
• Assist with minor repairs and basic maintenance tasks when assigned
• Follow established safety procedures, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals
• Secure buildings by locking doors and windows as required
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred, especially in a school or large facility
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and safety practices
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Strong attention to detail and time management skills
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry items
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks and work on your feet for extended periods
Work Schedule
Part-time
• 7:30am to 1:00pm
• Occasional weekend work may be required for events, disinfecting classrooms, or emergencies
Work Environment
• Indoor school facilities with frequent interaction with students and staff
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and noise typical of a school setting
