Reporting to the Principal, the Athletic Director provides strategic leadership, oversight, and vision for all interscholastic sports while ensuring alignment with the schools Catholic mission and commitment to student development.
This role is responsible for cultivating a culture of excellence, sportsmanship, and accountability while elevating the visibility and success of Carrolls athletic programs. Key Responsibilities: -Athletic Program Leadership -Provide strategic direction and long-term vision for all athletic programs -Foster a culture of sportsmanship, integrity, and academic excellence -Expand student participation and enhance the overall student-athlete experience -Evaluate and strengthen programs to ensure competitive success and mission alignment Personnel Management: -Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate coaching staff -Provide ongoing professional development and mentorship for coaches -Ensure accountability and alignment with school values and expectations Athletic Operations: -Oversee scheduling and transportation for all teams, facilities, and competitions -Coordinate officials and game-day operations -Ensure proper management of equipment, uniforms, and facilities -Maintain a high standard of organization across all athletic events Compliance and Governance Ensure full compliance with: -Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) -District of Columbia State Athletic Association (DCSAA) -Archdiocese of Washington policies -School academic and eligibility standards Responsibilities include: -Monitoring academic eligibility and student-athlete progress -Maintaining required documentation and physicals -Attending league and conference meetings -Enforcing health and safety protocols -Budget and Resource Management -Develop and manage the athletic department budget -Oversee purchasing and resource allocation -Partner with Advancement to support fundraising initiatives -Student-Athlete Development -Promote academic accountability and character development -Support college recruitment and exposure opportunities -Monitor student-athlete conduct and well-being Communication & Community Engagement: -Serve as the primary liaison between athletics and the school community -Promote athletic achievements through collaboration with the Communications staff -Partner with Admissions to support recruitment and enrollment -Represent Archbishop Carroll at events and within the broader community Facilities & Safety: -Oversee the use, scheduling, and maintenance of athletic facilities -Ensure safe environments for practices and competitions -Coordinate emergency preparedness plans Qualifications: -Bachelors Degree required; Masters Degree preferred -Minimum of 3 years of experience in athletics, coaching, or athletic administration -Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills -Knowledge of high school athletic operations, budgeting, and fundraising -Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment -Commitment to Catholic education and holistic student development -Experience in Catholic or independent school settings preferred -CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain) Work Schedule: -Full-time, 12-month position -Evening and weekend availability required -Regular attendance at athletic events is expected Mission Commitment: The Athletic Director must actively support the Catholic mission of Archbishop Carroll High School and serve as a visible role model of integrity, leadership, and professionalism for student-athletes.
