Brief Job Description: St. Christopher Catholic School is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and skilled Special Education Teacher to join our elementary school team. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing an inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environment for students with diverse learning needs. This role involves working with students with a range of disabilities, including but not limited to learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and dyslexia.
The Special Education Teacher will develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs), collaborate with general education teachers, and provide specialized support to help students reach their academic and social potential.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Individualized Education Plans (IEPs):
• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with special needs.
• Collaborate with parents, school staff, and other professionals to ensure IEP goals are being met.
• Review and update IEPs and other accommodation plans annually or as needed.
• Instruction and Support:
• Provide direct, one-on-one, and small-group instruction tailored to each student’s needs.
• Use differentiated teaching strategies and evidence-based practices to support academic, social, and emotional growth.
• Modify curriculum and materials to ensure accessibility and maximize student engagement.
• Collaboration:
• Work closely with general education teachers, staff, and other specialists (e.g., speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists) to ensure that all students receive appropriate support.
• Participate in team meetings, IEP reviews, and professional development sessions.
• Behavioral and Emotional Support:
• Provide guidance and support to students in managing behavior and social interactions.
• Progress Monitoring and Reporting:
• Regularly assess student progress towards IEP goals and adjust instruction as needed.
• Maintain accurate records and provide updates to parents, administrators, and other stakeholders.
• Communicate effectively with families regarding students’ academic progress and behavioral development.
• Classroom Management:
• Create and maintain a positive, structured classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Use positive behavior reinforcement strategies and implement school-wide behavioral expectations.
• Professional Development:
• Engage in continuous professional development to stay up-to-date on best practices and legal requirements in special education.
• Attend school and district meetings, workshops, and training sessions as needed.
Qualifications: Required Education/Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree required. NYS Teaching Certification Preferred

Salary: Starting at $31,000 annually
