Job Description
St. Peter’s Catholic Church is a thriving parish located on the coast in beautiful Beaufort,
South Carolina. We are seeking to form intentional disciples, set hearts on fire with love
for Christ, led by beautiful worship around the altar. We are seeking to hire a Director of
Music who will help our congregation experience the beauty and joy of heaven through
sacred music.
The Director of Music has a pivotal role in the musical life of the church. This individual
is a strong team player, expert organist and responsible staff member. Expectation of
attendance is for weekend Masses (currently 5 Masses), rehearsals with choir, and other
Holy Day services, including (but not limited to) Christmas and Easter as well as the
school Masses. The candidate will provide organ music and choir leadership for
scheduled Masses to include funeral and marriages.
St. Peter’s uses an A.E. Schlueter
Pipe Organ Company designed pipe organ with a Rodgers Infinity Series Model 484 MV
four Manual Organ Console.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in music, master’s degree preferred
• Practicing Catholic preferred.
• Facilitate congregational singing and worship through the excellent execution of
hymns
• Ability to mentor volunteer talent to include cantors of all ages and stages of
development
• Maintain an accurate account of organ needs and maintenance and the music
ministry/liturgy budget.
• Successfully complete the Diocese of Charleston application process before hire. This
includes criminal background check and Safe Environment Training
• Bilingual – English/ Spanish – is desired but not required
• Ability to provide other limited music services at an affiliated Historic Church as well as
a mission church
• Must have reliable personal transportation
• This is a full-time position
