Brief Job Description: The Maintenance Worker will work a full 40 hours per week and split time between Christ the King and Infant of Prague. Time will typically be shared 20 hours at each site; however, flexibility is expected if one site experiences an urgent/emergency need. The Maintenance Worker reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor at Christ the King and to the Maintenance Worker at Infant of Prague. The primary function of the Maintenance Worker is to help provide adequate cleaning, maintenance, and preventative maintenance on all school and parish equipment, buildings, and grounds to ensure the safety of all persons, including staff and visitors; and to extend the life and appearance of these facilities. The Maintenance Worker is responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness, and repair of parish and school facilities. He/She will perform a variety of facility and equipment maintenance duties which may include routine carpentry, electrical, and plumbing duties based on skill level and experience.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Clean the church (bathrooms, floors, carpets) as necessary
• Assist with a variety of installation, repair, and renovation to buildings including, but not limited to, electrical fixtures and switches, and semi-skilled tasks in construction, repair, and maintenance of wooden structures and articles
• Assist with the installation, repair, and renovation of some equipment including metal and wood equipment, electrical appliances, valves, gas stoves, hot water heaters, sinks, commodes, kitchen appliances, heating and cooling systems, sewer lines, etc.
• Occasional removal of snow/ice from parking lots and walkways
• Assist with moving and transporting furniture, books, and miscellaneous items as needed and requested
• Painting inside and outside of buildings as needed
• Responsible for all equipment and tools used
• Assist in other areas related to the overall maintenance of the parish and school
• Perform any other duties as deemed necessary by the Maintenance Supervisor, Business Manager, or Pastor
Qualifications: Required Education/Experience:
• High School Diploma or GED, a valid State Driver’s License, and a reliable vehicle to run occasional, necessary errands
• Minimum 3 years prior maintenance experience
• Knowledge of procedures, practices, tools, and equipment used in maintenance
• General knowledge in the fields of carpentry, electrical work, cement work, plumbing, sanitation, mechanics, locksmithing, air conditioning, grounds maintenance, and janitorial care
• Must possess the ability to:
– Move, load and unload equipment and supplies weighing up to 75 pounds
– Work independently without direct supervision
– Walk long distances around the facilities; bend, stoop, squat, reach, and climb ladders
– Make judgements related to emergency and safety matters
• Ability to communicate effectively and take direction from supervisors
• Successful completion of the Protecting God’s Children training and remain up to date on monthly bulletins
Desired Skills:
• Familiarity with church and school environments
• Ability to work with a variety of constituents, including children
• Ability to be ‘on call’ in the case of facility emergencies in the evenings and on weekends
Salary: $20/hour
