Job Title: K–8 Physical Education Teacher
Position Summary
The K–8 Physical Education Teacher is responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive physical education program that promotes physical fitness, health, teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong wellness. The teacher supports the mission of Catholic education by fostering the spiritual, academic, social, emotional, and physical development of each student in a faith-filled environment.

- Participates in school liturgies, prayer, and faith-based activities as appropriate
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Curriculum
- Develop and implement age-appropriate physical education curriculum for grades K–8 aligned with state standards and diocesan guidelines
- Teach skills related to movement, fitness, sports, teamwork, and personal health
- Promote lifelong wellness habits and physical fitness
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
- Integrate character development and sportsmanship into daily lessons
Classroom & Environment Management
- Maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment
- Establish and enforce clear behavioral expectations rooted in respect and responsibility
- Ensure proper supervision and safety of students during activities
- Inspect and maintain equipment for safety and proper use
Assessment & Communication
- Assess student progress and provide regular feedback
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and skill development
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and concerns
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences as required
School Community Involvement
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to support school-wide initiatives
- Assist with school events such as field days or wellness activities
- Support or coordinate extracurricular athletics programs (if applicable)
- Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and required trainings
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or related field preferred
- Valid state teaching certification (or ability to obtain certification)
- Practicing Catholic preferred, or willingness to actively support the Catholic mission of the school
- Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate instruction
- Strong classroom management skills
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to actively demonstrate physical activities and skills
- Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 40 pounds)
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
- Continuous supervision and movement during class periods
Work Environment
This position operates in a faith-based educational setting that includes daily prayer, religious observances, and an emphasis on moral development alongside academic and physical growth.
Compensation
Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience and in accordance with diocesan guidelines.
