The Role We're looking for an experienced Controller to join our finance team. Reporting to the Finance Director, you'll lead our accounting department and play a key role in the financial health of a dynamic, mission-driven nonprofit.
What You'll Do
- Lead the accounting department through full financial cycles: budgets, audits, payroll, AP/AR, and monthly statements
- Oversee grant and contract reporting to outside funders
- Ensure GAAP compliance and maintain strong internal controls
- Guide accountants on proper accounting policy and application
- Assist with annual audits and serve as backup to the Finance Director for Board reporting
What You Bring
- BS/BA in Accounting (CPA preferred)
- 7–10 years of accounting and finance experience, including department management
- Strong GAAP and nonprofit accounting knowledge
- Project accounting and indirect allocation experience
- Proficiency in MS Office/Excel and fund accounting software (Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT a plus)
- Experience in a multi-program nonprofit is highly preferred
