Job Summary
Catholic Charities of Fairfield County is seeking a SOAR (SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery) Benefit Specialist. This full-time (35 hours/week), benefits-eligible position is based in our Danbury office as part of our Homeless Services team.
SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR) is a national program designed to increase access to the disability income benefit programs administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA) for adults who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness and mental illness or co-occurring substance use disorder.
The position will assist in the development and implementation of SOAR services in our region. The SOAR Benefit Specialist participates in an online training program and is expected to receive SOAR certification within 40 days of hire. Prior experience in human services is a plus.
Accountabilities:
- Complete client intakes and compile medical information and other client data;
- Write comprehensive medical summary reports for all enrolled clients, and under the supervision of the Program Director, serve as the representative for client applications;
- Complete and track applications, manage communication with entitlement programs, and provide referrals to community services;
- Participate in regional and statewide meetings.
Skills:
- Working knowledge of entitlement programs and application processes.
- Advanced communication skills, oral and written.
- Advanced computer skills;
- Familiarity with medical reports and terminology.
- Ability to promote the program internally and externally.
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Individuals with lived experience are encouraged to apply.

- Complete online SOAR training and required certification within 40 days of hire.
- Valid Driver’s License and proof of registration and insurance is required.
