St. Alphonsus Catholic School is seeking joyful candidates to join our program as a special education teacher in the GRACE Program for the 2026-2027 school year for a Kindergarten through 2nd grade combined class.
Education, Experience and Certifications:
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree at a minimum and a master’s degree in an area of education preferred. Candidates must have a current Louisiana teaching certificate that includes the special education add-on certification. Experience in the classroom preferred but not required. Student teaching experience in special education classroom is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Complete specific trainings: child protection and first aid/CPR
• Familiarity of the formal evaluation process for students with special needs
• Ability to draft and implement a service plan
• Ability to maintain a positive learning environment including the implementation of individualized education plans
• Ability to maintain a clear, safe and orderly environment
• Ability to communicate appropriately to all stakeholders and with school administration and faculty for the overall well-being of each child
• Knowledge of autism, specific learning disabilities, ADHD, and other health impairments
• Knowledge of the various baseline assessments and how to plot and track data over time
