General Summary:
This position is responsible for performing routine cleaning and basic maintenance duties across multiple buildings on campus. The Janitor ensures all assigned areas are clean, sanitary, and well-maintained to provide a safe and comfortable environment for guests, volunteers, staff and visitors.
Minimum Qualifications:
A. Education, Experience & Certifications:

- High School diploma or GED preferred
- 3 years of custodial experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment
B. Other Qualifications;

- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards
- Reliable and punctual with good time management skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Good interpersonal skills for interacting with campus community, including staff, volunteers, vendors, and those served by SVDP
- Basic problem-solving and math abilities
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new cleaning methods and technologies
C. Physical Demands:

- Ability to stand, walk, and be mobile for extended periods (up to eight hours per shift)
- Regularly lift and move items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds; occasionally up to fifty (50) pounds
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing and pulling
- Manual dexterity to operate cleaning equipment and tools
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights up to twelve (12) feet (for dusting, changing bulbs, etc.)
- Ability to work in various weather conditions when cleaning exterior areas

- Regular exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust and dirt
- May work in areas with varying temperatures
- Potential exposure to bodily fluids during cleaning of restrooms and responding to accidents
- May work evening, weekend, or early morning shifts
- Required to move between multiple buildings on campus in various weather conditions
Essential Job Duties/Performance Standards:

- Clean and sanitize restrooms, offices, hallways, stairwells, and common areas according to established schedules and standards
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors; dust and clean furniture and fixtures
- Keep campus grounds free from trash and debris
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles and transport to designated collection points
- Clean windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces
- Restock restroom supplies such as paper towels, toilet paper, and soap
- Identify and report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or equipment malfunctions to supervisor
- Perform basic preventative maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, unclogging drains, etc.
- Respond to emergency cleaning situations (spills, accidents, etc.) in a timely manner
