2nd/3rd Grade Teacher (Bilingual Preferred)
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated 2nd/3rd Grade Teacher to join our team at Cathedral Dual Language Academy whose primary purpose is to form students academically, emotionally, and spiritually, while instilling a love for others, for God, and for their Catholic faith. This teacher will work collaboratively with a partner 2nd/3rd grade teacher to plan and deliver instruction across core content areas. A bilingual candidate (Spanish/English) is preferred to support our commitment to biliteracy and culturally responsive teaching. The ideal candidate will foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that supports both academic growth and social-emotional development.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with established Diocesan and Iowa standards.
- Establish and communicate clear learning objectives and use a variety of instructional strategies and resources to support diverse learners.
- Create and maintain a structured, positive classroom environment by implementing effective classroom management practices in accordance with school policies.
- Assign and assess student work, including classwork, homework, and formal assessments.
- Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students and families, respond promptly to parent inquiries and concerns, and support continued academic growth.
- Monitor student progress using assessment data to adjust instruction and provide targeted intervention or enrichment as needed.
- Integrate technology and instructional resources to enhance learning and differentiate instruction.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and prepare required reports in compliance with Iowa law, Diocesan policies, and school guidelines.
- Participate actively in professional development, collaborative planning meetings, parent conferences, and other required school activities.
- Engage visibly in the school community by attending student events, liturgies, concerts, and extracurricular activities.
- Work collaboratively with grade-level teams, specialists, and administrators to share resources, instructional strategies, and student progress.
- Communicate effectively with families by providing regular updates and supporting them in addressing academic or behavioral concerns.
- Support the social-emotional development of students by fostering a nurturing, respectful, and safe learning environment.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to students in both academic and personal growth.
- Demonstrate strong preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
- Assist with additional duties as assigned, including special projects or coverage as needed.

- Bachelor’s degree in Education (required)
- Valid Iowa Teaching License (required)
- Bilingual in Spanish and English (preferred), with strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages
- Experience teaching primary or elementary grades (2nd and/or 3rd grade preferred)
- Strong knowledge of elementary literacy and math instruction, with an emphasis on differentiation
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a co-planning or team-teaching model
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families
- Passion for teaching and commitment to student growth academically, socially, and spiritually
- Meet professional teacher education requirements of the school, Diocese, and State
