IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION

Position Title : Sacristan Hours/Week : 19 | Part Time

Department: Parish Administration

Employee’s Supervisor: Director of Administration, Patrick Wray

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS

Sacristan

· Prepare to supply what the priests need for conducting masses, sacraments, and other ceremonies

· Be prepared to consult with the priests and deacons on issues that may be controlled by cannon law

· Oversee St Joseph Alter Society to ensure work is being done in accordance with the posted check lists for volunteers cleaning crews and linen preparations

· Oversee proper care, laundering and pressing of linens and placement

· Order supplies and flowers for masses, sacraments, rites, and other ceremonies

· Coordinate with parishioners who request special flowers for a given mass, sacrament, rite, or other ceremony held in either the new or old St. Mary church

· Maintain altar server cassocks

· Keep vestments clean

· Change out candles and polishing when needed

· Keeper Priest and working sacristies in good clean working environments

Coordinate sacramental and clerical items

· Cleaning supplies, flowers, wine, host wafers and candles invoices to bookkeeper

· Ordering flowers, ashes, palms

· Special needs for Holy Days, ambos, microphones, reserve seating, door posting of information

· Serve the funeral or committal as staff contact/coordinator to family and funeral home during service

Coordinate Parish Events and Mass Coordinators

· EVENTS

· Events are many and varied. In typical year events include:

· Masses

· Sacraments

· Rites

· Other Ceremonies such as:

· Acquire and put in place what is needed for the Blessing of the Animals

· All Souls days

· Palm Sunday

· Holy Thursday

· Other

ASSOCIATED WITH EVENTS

· Ensure that ordos, Mass intentions, collection bags for masses, sacraments, rites, and other ceremonies held in either the new or old St. Mary church are posted and updated when the need arises

· Create and check lists that is required for a given event

EMERGENT EVENTS

These may be requested or assigned by a Priest or Deacon

· Emergent events are ones that are unpredictable and sometimes referred to as, “one offs” or “other tasking as assigned”
