About St. Vincent de Paul Charitable Pharmacy

St. Vincent de Paul Charitable Pharmacy provides free prescription medications to uninsured patients. Many of the patients we serve are managing chronic or life-threatening conditions and have exhausted other options for care.

Our work is grounded in a simple belief: access to medication restores dignity, stability, and hope. Every prescription filled represents a patient who no longer must choose between health and basic necessities.

Position Summary

The Staff Pharmacist is a hands-on, day-to-day role focused on keeping the pharmacy running safely, efficiently, and compassionately. This position works on the floor, actively engaged in prescription verification, dispensing workflow, patient interaction, and technician support throughout the shift.

The Staff Pharmacist provides on-shift clinical leadership, ensuring smooth workflow and uninterrupted care for patients who rely on our pharmacy for life-saving medications.

This is a 100% on-site position.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Verify prescriptions for accuracy, safety, and clinical appropriateness.

• Maintain steady, efficient prescription workflow in a high-volume charitable pharmacy setting.

• Provide real-time support and direction to pharmacy technicians during dispensing activities.

• Resolve prescription issues, clarifications, and medication availability challenges as they arise.

• Participate in inventory management, including ordering, and receiving medications.

• Monitor inventory levels and expiration dates to minimize waste and ensure availability of essential medications.

• Ensure compliance with Texas Board of Pharmacy regulations and internal procedures.

• Other duties as assigned.

Patient Care and Clinical Support

• Interact directly with patients with professionalism, respect, and empathy.

• Answer patient questions regarding medications, dosing, side effects, and adherence.

• Collaborate with prescribers to recommend appropriate alternatives when medications are unavailable or unattainable.

• As time permits, help ensure patients leave with a therapy plan that is both clinically appropriate and realistically obtainable.

Student and Team Support

• Serve as a day-to-day preceptor for pharmacy students rotating through the pharmacy.

• Model efficient workflow, sound clinical judgment, and mission-driven care.

• Foster a collaborative, respectful working environment on the floor.

• Serve as point of escalation and resolution when staff members encounter difficult patient interactions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Demonstrated knowledge of pharmacy professional practices and regulatory requirements.

• Solid understanding of pharmacy workflow management, inventory management, and loss prevention procedures.

• Able to keep confidential information regarding patients and team members.

• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills required.

• Excellent computer software skills (including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)), pharmacy systems and database management.

• Knowledge and experience with electronic health records.

• Strong clinical assessment, data management and interpretation skills required.

• Must demonstrate the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks based on organizational need and judgement.

• Must be flexible and self-motivated.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy required; PharmD preferred.

• Currently hold an active Texas Pharmacist license in good standing.

• Currently holds license as a preceptor for the state of Texas.

• Bilingual Spanish/English required.

• Community or outpatient pharmacy experience preferred.

• Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume, mission-driven environment.

• Comfortable serving patients from diverse backgrounds within a faith-based nonprofit organization.

• Experience with PioneerRx preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and move throughout the shift.

• Ability to lift items up to 35 lbs.

• Ability to perform routine pharmacy tasks and operate pharmacy systems.
