The Director of Religious Education (DRE) walks with young people and their families to become active disciples of Christ who fully participate in all aspects of parish life. This is accomplished through a process of evangelization that includes pastoral, liturgical and catechetical formation. The DRE provides primary leadership for the design, implementation and evaluation of religious education to our youth. The DRE continually seeks to form parents and other adults to also walk with our youth in their faith in order to make disciples of them as well. Candidates who possess effective leadership, strong personal communication and organizational skills will be given preference. All catechetical instruction must be in keeping with the magisterial teachings of the Catholic Church.

The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church. When this is a full-time position, the employee is eligible for medical insurance and other benefits offered by the Diocese of Corpus Christi.
Responsibilities:

As an integral part of ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
Continuously grow in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
Participates in decision-making regarding total parish direction and activities. Attends team meetings, team faith formation, and team development days
Continues personal formation through appropriate classes, workshops and retreats
Facilitates the DRE Leadership Team to plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive parish program for youth in grades Pre-K3 - 5 to include sacrament preparation and vacation bible school
Meets with the Pastor’s leadership team to schedule, plan, and carry out all RE activities
Builds relationships of integrity with youth that become the basis of meeting needs, sharing Christ, and involving youth in age-appropriate ministry
Invites, trains, motivates, evaluates and adult volunteers to support the RE ministry, and promotes faith formation of catechists and assistants
Coordinates, maintains and communicates a calendar and database of RE programs and activities with the calendars of the parish and the diocese
Prepares and organizes classes, retreats, vacation bible school and social functions
Prepares marketing and communication tools to promote RE programs and activities
Discerns emerging RE ministry needs; develops modifications and enhancements to meet those needs
Obtains and maintains parental support and consent for all program activities in keeping with parish and diocesan guidelines
Provides supervisor with timely program activity reports and evaluations
Manages the annual budget for the parish Religious Education Department
Performs additional duties as assigned
Mental/Physical Demands:
Able to sit and perform computer work for lengthy periods of time
Frequent use of computer keyboard that requires repetitive hand and wrist movements
Frequent walking, standing and sitting
Flexible hours, including evenings, weekend and occasional overnight stays
Ability to lift 10 pounds or more without assistance

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
Active Roman Catholic, dedicated to the sacramental life of the Church and lives by its moral code
Emotionally mature individual, confident in his/her ability to work with youth and adults for fostering the Catholic faith
Bachelor’s degree in pastoral ministry, religious studies, or theology, with some experience in the fields of youth ministry is preferred
Creative with excellent skills for prioritizing and organizing
Skilled in both written and oral communication
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, ProPresenter, Canva, and fluent in applications used by our youth
Valid Texas driver's license
Additional Requirements:
Must successfully complete criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review, and drug screening
Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required
Must adhere to all diocesan policies and procedures
