Job Description
Homeschool Connections, the premier Catholic online curriculum provider, has one (1) opening for a LIVE course High School Chemistry Teacher (9th to 12th-grade students) for a course eligible for college credit, including a High School Honors track. The applicant should be comfortable teaching from a college-level textbook, such as Introduction to General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry, Timberlake (ISBN-13: 978-0-13-44); Chemistry, McMurry and Ballentine (ISBN-13: 978-136054504); or Chemistry, Wilbraham, Staley, Matta, Waterman (ISBN: 0-13-251210-6). The position is contract, fully remote, and part-time, with courses to begin in Fall 2027.
This contracted remote position is for an individual who can be independently in charge of his/her courses yet maintain clear communication (and follow directions). The ideal candidate wants to work part-time during daytime hours in what he/she loves; is supportive of the Catholic faith and believes in the Nicene Creed; is highly skilled in the teaching of chemistry for high school students; and can commit to staying in the position for at least one year. Most teachers for Homeschool Connections also have a strong background in teaching and are familiar with homeschooling/online educating at home.
Applicant Requirements/Qualifications
Applicant must have the following:
• A minimum of two (2) years of high school chemistry instruction experience
• A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related science from an accredited university, with a master's degree preferred
• A joyful, positive online demeanor that students can connect with
• Experience guiding and leading both skilled and struggling students
• Experience working remotely with online teaching and LMS (preferred)
• High organization skills
• Exceptional communication skills, written and verbal
• Able to work independently, managing resources and documentation
• Tact and skill in working with parents of high school students
• The ability to integrate the tenets of the Catholic faith into all work relationships and performance
• The ability to pass a background check as requested
Job Responsibilities include the following:
• Teaches LIVE class sessions at agreed times each week: 10 minutes in the classroom beforehand with the Course Monitor (second adult)
• Gives timely, friendly, respectful responses to parents and students, including excellent follow-up; answers student and parent messages within 24 hours, M-F; and communicates with parents via email according to expectations
• Communicates clearly and regularly with Homeschool Connections staff
• Gives excellent feedback on all assignments that meets and exceeds student/parent expectations within seven (7) days of the assignment deadline
