POSITION SUMMARY:The Substitute Preschool Director is responsible for providing short-term leadership and oversight of the preschool program in the absence of the Preschool Director. This role ensures the continuity of daily operations, including staff supervision, student safety, curriculum implementation, and compliance with all licensing and school policies. The Substitute Preschool Director serves as the primary point of contact for staff, families, and administration, maintaining a positive, safe, and developmentally appropriate learning environment. This position requires strong leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to effectively manage operations and respond to the needs of the school community in a dynamic setting, while upholding the mission and values of the Catholic school.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING (and other duties as assigned):
- Provide leadership and assume full responsibility for preschool operations in the absence of the Preschool Director.
- Ensure implementation of the program’s philosophy, policies, and curriculum, maintaining consistency and continuity of instruction and care.
- Supervise and support preschool staff, including teachers and assistants; provide guidance, delegation, and performance feedback as needed.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and nurturing environment in full compliance with licensing, health, and safety regulations.
- Oversee daily school operations, including staffing, scheduling, student supervision, attendance, and classroom coverage.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, addressing questions, concerns, and communications in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensure compliance with all security procedures, including check-in/out, emergency preparedness, and incident reporting.
- Monitor classroom environments and instructional quality to ensure developmentally appropriate practices.
- Support and enforce all state licensing requirements and ensure documentation is complete and up to date.
- Collaborate with the Principal and administrative team on operational needs, staffing issues, and program concerns.
- Respond to emergencies, behavioral incidents, and parent concerns with sound judgment and professionalism.
- Support staff in maintaining positive classroom management and student engagement.

- Support the philosophy, policies, and goals of the school, as well as the decisions made by the Principal and Administrators.
- Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all students.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined in the parent/student handbook and employee handbook.

- Attend faculty, administrative, and all other meetings as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field with 24 ECE/CD units, including core, 6 units in administration, 2 units in adult supervision, or
- Teaching, Administrative, or Administrative Services Credential with 12 units of Preschool plus 3 units supervised field experience in Preschool settings.
- At least two years’ experience working in a Preschool.
- Current Infant First Aid and CPR certification.
Leadership Skills:
Language Skills:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders of the school.
- English, required.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Vietnamese) preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient at word processing, presentation, and electronic mail applications.
- Experience with school information systems (SIS).
- Working knowledge of Workday, or willingness to learn.
- Proficient with admission software, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google applications.
Physical Demands:
- Sitting, standing, walking, reaching, lifting, repetitive motion, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, stretching, twisting.
- Can operate standard office equipment such as copiers, fax machines, personal computer, telephone, and alarm system.
- Can lift 25 lbs. in compliance with safety standards.
- Level of vision, hearing, speaking required.

Salary Range: $75,000 – 87,500
