St. John Henry Newman Parish is seeking a mission-driven leader to serve as our Lead Coordinator of
Faith Formation & Family Engagement, helping guide and grow faith formation efforts for children
and families across our parish communities.
This position provides leadership for children’s and family faith formation programs while also
developing relationships and outreach opportunities that invite families into the life of the Church.
Position Details:
Flexible 0.8–1.0 FTE (32–40 hours/week)
Salary range: $41,000–$44,000 for 1.0 FTE, $32,800-$35,200 for .8 FTE
Benefits available for positions maintaining 0.75 FTE or higher annually.
Flexible 0.8 FTE scheduling options may include:
- 40 hours/week during the school year with reduced hours in the summer, or
- Approximately 32 hours/week year-round
The position includes Wednesday evening programming during the program (school) year
and occasional weekend activities, which may be flexed within the work week.

supported in living their faith. The Coordinator will help create opportunities where children, parents, and
volunteers grow together as disciples while strengthening the connection between parish life, the parish
school, and the broader community.

that help families discover that the Church is a place where they belong.
Because this role focuses heavily on building relationships within the parish community, the successful
candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills. This individual will
serve as a community builder, helping families feel welcomed and connected while guiding faith formation in a way that strengthens relationships among families, volunteers, parish leadership, and the broader parish community.
Key Responsibilities:
Faith Formation Leadership
- Lead children’s and youth faith formation programs at St. Mary’s Portage
- Provide program system support, volunteer coordination and training with Priest and church leadership
at St. Faustina in Pardeeville.
- Coordinate sacramental preparation for:
- First Reconciliation
- First Eucharist
- Confirmation
- Coordinate curriculum and programming for Wednesday evening faith formation.
- Be present during weekly programs to support volunteers and ensure smooth operation.
Family Engagement & Evangelization
- Develop opportunities that invite and engage families within the parish and school communities.
- Build relationships with families not currently involved in faith formation programs.
- Create events and programming that help families connect faith with everyday life.
- Promote parish evangelization initiatives and collaborate with diocesan efforts such as Go Make
Disciples.
- Maintain a visible and welcoming presence at parish life events, helping families connect with faith
formation opportunities while working collaboratively with parish staff and volunteers to ensure these
responsibilities remain sustainable within the role.
Volunteer & Catechist Development
- Recruit, train, and support catechists and volunteers.
- Maintain consistent communication with catechists and program leaders.
- Ensure all volunteers comply with Safe Environment / VIRTUS training requirements.
Program Coordination
- Oversee program logistics including:
- Registration
- Attendance
- Supplies
- Family communication
- Coordinate Children’s Liturgy of the Word (currently in Portage).
- Support Vacation Bible School and other seasonal programming as capacity allows.
- Plan and facilitate family faith sessions and parish events.
Pastorate Collaboration
- Work closely with Faith Formation Assistants and other volunteers across parish locations.
- Help develop efficient systems and shared resources that support faith formation throughout the
pastorate.
- Support each church community in maintaining its local identity while working toward unified
catechetical goals.
- Coordinate with volunteers leading Wednesday faith formation in Pardeeville, including in-person
presence approximately one Wednesday per month to support programming and relationships.
- Most family outreach and program development will occur in Portage (St. Mary Church), with
successful initiatives and resources shared with Faith Formation Assistants and volunteers across the
pastorate.
This role combines program coordination with relational ministry, ensuring families and volunteers feel
welcomed, supported, and connected to parish life.
Qualifications
We are seeking someone who:
- Is a practicing Catholic committed to the mission of the Church
- Has a passion for working with children, youth, and families
- Enjoys building relationships and welcoming new families
- Is organized and comfortable coordinating programs and volunteers
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, with the ability to build
trust with families, collaborate with volunteers, and communicate effectively with parish leadership
and staff.
- Experience in education, parish ministry, youth ministry, or faith formation is helpful but formal
degrees are not required.
Schedule Expectations
This role includes:
- Wednesday evening programming
- Occasional weekend events
- Flexible scheduling throughout the week to support ministry needs.
