Job Description
Catholic Charities of Southwest Kansas is seeking an Adult Education Instructor to join our Dodge City team. In this role, you will help newly arrived refugees build English language skills, gain cultural orientation, and find pathways to employment and self-sufficiency.
You will instruct English Language Training (ELT) classes, assess refugee language skills, coordinate with employment specialists, and work with volunteers and community partners — all to help refugees integrate successfully into our community.
Responsibilities:
- Assist and support new refugees arriving in Southwest Kansas
- Support secondary-migrant refugees that move to Southwest Kansas
- Assess new and secondary migrants on their English skills
- Coordinate placement in the appropriate ELT class to increase employability
- Instruct English classes for students with some to no English
- Coordinate with Employment Specialist to find suitable employment for refugees
- Assess refugees for their knowledge on cultural orientation topics
- Coordinate with volunteers and community partners to provide necessary resources
- Facilitate programming for pregnant and parenting adults
- Provide required services as per KSOR ELT policy (assessments, teaching, referrals)
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes within 72 hours
- Submit documentation in compliance with Catholic Charities, USCCB, and KSOR policies
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Education preferred with ELT Training
- Experience facilitating programming
- Proficient in written and verbal communication
- Ability to work collaboratively with people of diverse backgrounds
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record
- Ability to maintain client and agency confidentiality
