Description
Incarnate Word High School, a Catholic all-girls school sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, seeks a Part-Time Head Volleyball Coach for the 2026-2027 school year who is committed to the holistic formation of young women in a Catholic educational environment. As a dynamic and faith-driven athletic program, we empower student-athletes to grow physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The Head Volleyball coach supports the school’s mission by promoting athletic excellence, leadership, and Catholic-centered values through competitive athletics. The ideal candidate will report directly to the school's Athletic Director.
Position Purpose:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive Volleyball program that promotes athletic excellence, teamwork, and sportsmanship, while reflecting the values of the Catholic faith
- Cultivate a positive and supportive team culture that encourages each athlete to reach their full potential, builds resilience, and nurtures a love for the sport
- Foster a sense of community and camaraderie among team members, while promoting the values of compassion, kindness, and service to others
- Provide expert coaching, guidance, and mentorship to help athletes improve their performance, develop their skills, and achieve their goals
- Collaborate with school administrators, faculty, and staff to ensure alignment with the school's mission and values
- Represent the school and athletic program in a professional and respectful manner, both on and off campus
Through this role, the Head Volleyball Coach helps student-athletes become confident, compassionate, and accomplished young women who embody the values of the Catholic community and are prepared to make a positive impact in the world.
Requirement and Responsibilities
Required Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree or higher-level degree in related field (e.g., physical education, sports management)
· Minimum of 3-5 years of high school or higher-level coaching experience
Position Responsibilities:
· Must adhere to all policies and procedures set forth by IWHS.
· Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
· Assesses student’s skills and assigns team positions.
· Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
· Works with Athletic Director in scheduling games, facilities, and transportation for practices and competition.
· Supervises student-athletes during games and travel.
· Promotes a safe and positive athletic environment.
· Assigns duties to the assistant coaching staff as necessary.
· Coaches and instructs students, individual or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
· Observes athletes, during competition and practice to determine the needs for
individual or team improvement.
· Determines game strategy bases on the team’s capabilities.
· Establishes and maintains standards for behavior and always provides proper supervision of students.
· Monitors the academic performances of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.
· Follows established procedures in the event of an injury.
· Conferences with parents/guardians as necessary regarding the academic, behavioral, or athletic performance of their student.
· Follows all TAPPS regulations and by laws.
· Follows all IWHS policies and procedures.
· Acts as a team representative and promotes the Volleyball program.
· Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance and requisitioning of equipment, supplies and uniforms.
· Participates in special activities to include parents’ night, banquets, awards night and pep assemblies.
· Works with the Athletic Director with eligibility, equipment inventory and other related paperwork.
· Collaborates with Athletic Director and Advancement office to promote IWHS and IWHS Volleyball to prospective middle school students.
· Attends athletic meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
· Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Knowledge and Skills:
· Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
· Must possess a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies and techniques of the sport.
· Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents and students.
· Understanding of the mission of the Sisters of Charity and Incarnate Word High School.
· Successful completion of VIRTUS and background check.
